The idea behind the Digital Services Act (DSA) is to protect users and their rights on the internet.
The vision is to allow websites to take greater responsibility for the illegal distribution of data, and thus contribute to higher transparency. The Digital Services Act will therefore primarily affect the largest players, but will also affect all companies to some extent.
But what does the Digital Services Act mean more concretely?
-
Greater transparency when it comes to how the algorithms are structured for ads, for example.
-
Higher advertising labeling requirements. You should be able to easily distinguish an ad from the authentic content.
-
Large advertising platforms must be able to disclose information about their advertisers and advertisements.
-
Higher requirements for risk assessments. The larger platforms need to analyze at least once a year how their services are used and work. This is to review and clear illegal content and accounts.
With the Digital Services Act, companies need to act quickly when they become aware that there is illegal content on their website. They also need to work actively to try to prevent illegal content from appearing on their platform.
